Formal Learning Strategy and Action Plan
July 2017

Northampton Museums & Art Gallery was embarking on an exciting period of change, with its main museum has closed in readiness for a major £6.8 million expansion and renovation project, including creating new exhibition galleries, collections facilities and visitor amenities. Abington Park Museum, set in Northampton's premier park, was also undergoing redisplay and expanding its visitor facilities.  The commission was to undertake a programme of consultation on the current formal learning provision and develop a strategic way forward with action plan for the development of a new school programme for the service.

Amy undertook a data analysis of school bookings and feedback and consulted with local schools through both in-depth interviews with teachers of different key stages, subjects and specialisms (including SEND) and Teacher Focus groups. The focus groups explored the challenges and opportunities of both the current offers and potential new curriculum linked school visits with facilitated, object focused activities.  Amy also worked with museum staff to ensure that the learning plan would complement plans for the new interpretation and would fit within the resourcing and staff

capacity of the service.
